VVEERA is one of the popular and widely known certification standard globally for carbon credit projects.
VERRA VCS/CCB/SD vista etc. audits are undertaken by auditing agencies called as Validation/Verification Bodies (VVBs) which are tasked with validating project descriptions and verifying actual emission reductions. against monitoring reports. All projects under the VERRA Program must be independently audited to ensure compliance with rigorous VERRA requirements for environmental integrity. EPIC is an accredited auditing agency for VEERA projects.
VERRA is a comprehensive quality-assurance system for carbon credits issued in voluntary markets. Projects use Verified Carbon Standard requirements to ensure their carbon reductions meet accepted quality standards and are independently verified, uniquely numbered and transparently listed in a central database.
Projects must be developed in accordance with an approved methodology or with a methodology from an approved GHG program. Many methodologies have been developed under the UN Clean Development Mechanism, which may be used to develop projects under VCS. Projects may also use methodologies developed under the VCS Program, notably in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. Methodologies developed by the Climate Action Reserve, with the exception of CAR’ s Forest protocol, may also be used to develop VCS projects. Project proponents can develop a project description and monitoring report concurrently and have the documents validated and the emission reductions verified at the same time, subject to VCS rules and regulations put in place from time to time. CCB, JNR, SD VISTA and Plastic Program are some of the other labels and standards VERRA operates.
